Job Overview - Tutoring Opportunities

About the Position

Tutoring for Lehigh Academy is a part time position with flexible hours. Since individual tutoring sessions occur in a student's home, all applicants must have a car and be willing to travel within a reasonable radius (30 minutes or less). Tutors must possess high standardized-test scores, effective communication skills and the ability to relate well to young people.

If You're Hired

All new instructors must participate in our 1:1 Training Program. To complete training, instructors must attend an orientation session and an intensive training workshop. Upon completion of the training program, each instructor meets with an Education Director for a Teachback session, a final checkpoint prior to the assignment of students.

A Typical Program

Our most popular and comprehensive preparation program is the 15-Session SAT I course. This program consists of fifteen 90-minute sessions that occur 1-2 times per week. As a specialized tutor, you will work with the student for approximately half of those 15 sessions while another tutor uses the remaining sessions to focus on the other areas of the test.  Sessions occur after-school, during the evenings and on weekends.

Job Overview - Classroom Instructors

About the Position

Instructing in the classroom at Lehigh Academy is a part-time position. Instructors must possess strong academic backgrounds and excellent communication skills. They must also be highly responsible, dependable and detail-oriented. Experience in a classroom is preferred, but all qualified candidates will be considered.

Interview Process

Qualified applicants will be invited to one of our local offices for a meeting with Education Director. One part of the interview consists of an abridged SAT test that is administered to all potential instructors. Instructors are evaluated and selected based on their presentation in the interview along with their performance on the "mini SAT" test. In addition, applicants are required to submit a resume detailing their educational, professional and testing history, provide us with academic and/or professional references and consent to a criminal background check.

If You're Hired

The 1:1 Training Program consists of an orientation session and an intensive training workshop. Our Training Program ensures that all instructors are well prepared for their work with students.

Those instructors selected to teach one of our classroom courses are required to complete an additional School Programs training session.

A Typical Program

We work to provide the most individualized programs possible for our school partners. The most popular format for a school program is eleven three-hour sessions. Most classes are scheduled for weekday afternoons and evenings or weekend mornings. Class size is never greater than 14 students.
